Simon Group revealed details of plans for an anticipated renovation of Schaumburg's Woodfield Mall shopping center, which showed a brighter, cleaner, more futuristic look.

History
Woodfield opened with 59 stores on September 9, 1971 Lord & Taylor opened along with 50 additional new retailers in a new wing in 1973. Woodfield Mall was the largest shopping mall in the United States in 1973. Twenty-three stores were added in 1991 -- the 20-year anniversary. The Nordstrom store and a new wing that included a larger Lord & Taylor opened in 1996. Improv Comedy Club opened in 2006. Management of Woodfield mall by Taubman Centers was taken over by Simon Property Group on January 1, 2013.
2015 Construction
Construction can begin at any time as a construction permit for the project has already been issued by the Village of Schaumburg. Village Board approval is not necessary because the construction plans do not involved expansion.
