Magnificent Mile: Uniqlo Coming to 830 N Michigan Avenue in Former Filene's Basement Space
Casual fashion brand Uniqlo announced Monday it will open its first Midwest store on the Magnificent Mile in the fall of 2015 in the former Filene's Basement space. The 60,000-square-foot multilevel flagship store at 830 North Michigan Avenue will be the Japanese retailer's second-largest U.S. store after its Fifth Avenue flagship in New York.
Uniqlo is launching “extra warm” Heattech, which is 50 percent warmer than regular Heattech, in August. Uniqlo claims that HEATTECH absorbs body moisture and generates heat from tiny droplets. A thermograph image provided by Uniqlo claims that it shows that HEATTECH maintains warmth evenly over the body. Specially-designed hollow fibers capture air to prevent warmth from escaping the body.
Uniqlo, which was founded in Hiroshima in 1984 and originally was called Unique Clothing Warehouse, has more than 1,400 stores in 16 markets worldwide, including 21 stores in the Northeast and the San Francisco Bay area.
